GENERAL INFORMATION.

The SCHU-Y-I-IJ-T Foundation was formed June 8, 1975 and officially registrered at the Chamber of Commerce in Amersfoort reg. number S189122

The board has 7 members coming from 5 different families.

There are about 50 different families with our family name without the same forefather, going back to early 1700 or as far as information can be traced. Some families used the name already around 1550. The name can be written as SCHUYT, SCHUIT or SCHUIJT, but is pronounced the same. The name originates in most cases from an occupation like shipbuilder, shipper or bargeman.

From the results of the 1947 census we know there were 1601 people with our name in Holland. We estimate there are between 2500 and 3000 people with our name at the moment worldwide.

In order to secure a decent handling of the collected information, a Privacy code has been developed and has been officially registrated at Den Haag with the Registratiekamer under number P-0019774.
